The Final Countdown

I'm sure you all have noticed (or will notice) the countdown at the bottom of the page. It's really starting to sink in that I will finally graduate from college after six years. It will be less than six months from now. It has always seemed so far away, and now it's within my reach. Patrice has been counting down for me since May of this year and has been so excited, but until this week it seemed like it would take forever getting here. Now six months later, I'm on my last leg.

So I registered for my last semester on Wednesday night, and when I looked at my schedule I got a little excited. I have to take a senior writing seminar, essentially my senior thesis, and I have been dreading it ever since I found out about it a year and a half ago. The course is structured around writing a 20-25 page paper. Now I realize that for some of you reading, this is a rather paltry number of pages compared to what you have written in the past. But for me, this is a rather daunting challenge considering the longest paper I've written in the past was just shy of eight pages, with the biggest font I could find. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little intimidated by it, especially since my graduation depends on whether or not I can write a paper worth at least a C-.

I consider myself a decent writer, but the process that precedes the words is rather grueling for me. It takes a lot of time for me to crank out something decent that's up to my standards. And when I turn it in to the professor, I discover it is well below theirs. Fortunately, my grades have shown marked improvement since I got married. I actually do most, if not all, of the homework assigned to me. I also make sure I go to all of my classes and take good notes so when midterms and finals roll around, I feel much more prepared. From my understanding, I will have almost the whole semester to write this one major paper, and if I make sure to start early, I'm confident that I will do fine.

As for the remainder of my credit hours, I'm trying to decide between a film class (which also requires writing another paper or two), or an online class called Fit For Life, which would also require me to take an exercise class of sorts in order to make the hours requirement for graduation. I know you all think I should take the film class because I love movies so much, but those classes require critical thinking, which I am incapable of when it comes to school.

That's all for now. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Just make sure you choose a topic for your paper that is interesting. I had no choice and had to take my senior seminar on CHina. So I stretched my topic to cover the middle east. It was actually an awesome paper in the end. It was about the U.S. selling arms to Israel who would then violate their agreement with the states and sell the arms to China. Those arms (our own U.S. made weapons) would then be used against us in Taiwan. The paper rocked! I think I got an A. So just do something that you can really get into and you will have no problem spitting out 30 pages.
