Moving...

As some of you may or may not be aware, we put our home up for sale at the end of April and have been hoping to find a new house. It isn't because we don't like where we live, we just felt a little cramped and needed some room to stretch our legs. For example, in a decent-size yard.

In early September we received an offer, and after some mild negotiations, a home inspection, an appraisal, etc., we are closing on the offer at the beginning of October. We are definitely sad to leave our current home as this is where we began our lives together, but it just feels like it is time to move on.

So we have decided to build a home and move in with my mom until it is finished. There have been several people tell us how stressful it is to build a new home, so wish us luck! Moving, living with the in-laws, and building....to some it might seem crazy (even us!), but the end result will be (hopefully) worth it. Our evenings are now spent packing boxes and then moving them to our storage unit. I'm dreaming about our new place and how I want to decorate each room. I am SUPER excited to be building a rambler and will NOT miss having 3 levels, but I think Harrison will miss climbing the stairs all the time!

Here is a drawing of what our new home will look like. Not bad for something I drew on a napkin, huh? Just kidding, this is from the builder. We will also be adding a 3rd car garage to keep all of our future toys, like the lawn mower.

New Place to Call Home

So where are you guys thinking about moving to? How long does it take to build a new home anyway? Sounds like a process! I can't believe Harrison is going to be one next month. that's sooo crazy to me!

It depends on whom you are having build the home. We experienced virtually no stress when our home was built, our only stress came from whether or not we'd be approved for our mortgage loan. And I LOVED choosing the colors and flooring for our house! Wish I could do it all over again, but we are in that bracket of people who have lost their home (through one way or another, for us it was a short sale) in this market and won't be in the market to buy again for several more years. :(

How exciting to be building! Good luck!

WOW, that is big news! Congrats on selling your house - in this economy that's a huge feat! But in this economy it's an awesome opportunity to build the home of your dreams! Good luck with the adventure. If your mom is half as nice as she seemed when I met her, then it shouldn't be bad at all to live with her. Hooray for a yard!

What a beautiful home!! When Jon and I built our first home together, I had a hard time making holes in the walls...unsure of where I wanted to hang things. My walls were bare until I was 100% sure. Good luck w/ your decorating.
