Solids...

The Pediatrician told me that I can start Harrison on SOLIDS! I've picked up some Rice cereal (plain) and I'm going to try it this weekend. I heard the first several times are entertaining, so I have my camera ready to roll.

So now I have a question for all you moms? How often do I give Harrison rice cereal? Once a day or several times a day? In the morning or at night? Do I mix it with water, formula, or juice? Everything I read says something different? And then I'm supposed to introduce other types of cereal...UGH!!! So confusing...this is REALLY keeping me up at night...so silly!

This is what I did. I started feeding Jonah rice cereal at 2 months mixed in with pumped breast milk at night time. This gave him more substance to sleep longer at night. Then within a few weeks I would give him one during the day. At 4 months my doctor said that I could start feeding him real solid food, but I didn't start until he was closer to 5 months and that was just sweet potato for 2 weeks and then I'd introduce something new like carrots...and so on every 2 weeks. THEN at his 6 month check-up, the doctor said that we could start feeding him pretty much anything that we were eating. Jonah has become SUCH a good eater. I think it has helped that he's gotten teeth fairly early b/c that helps him with the whole eating thing.

Sorry for the rambling...that's just what I did.

Reiny got rice cereal twice a day...mixed with water. I tried it with breast milk, but she hated it that way. Try just a few tablespoons at first. Harrison will let you know what he prefers, and how often he wants it. If you want to know more, call me...I wrote EVERTYTHING down!!!

It is funny because I just went to a feeding class taught by a dietician this week. She said basically what you've already been told, she said mix with formula or breastmilk and give it to them in the morning and then at night, after a week of this start them on one type of vegetable, so like do carrots for a week because they are sweeter, then add another vegetable a couple weeks later, only introduce one food at a time so if Harrison is allergic to anything you'll know exactly what it is. She said do veggies first because they prefer sweeter things so if you do fruits first they may not eat vegetables when it is that time because they like the sweet stuff. Good luck. Oh she also gave me information on how to make your own baby food, sounds fun and easy. Let me know if you want that info.

My kids HATED cereal....I usually had to mix it with juice or fruit and they would kind of eat it. I use to try in the morning and at night. You will have to see what Harrison likes.

By the way every time I pull up your blog there is all kinds of html at the top and your blog looks really weird???

Good luck with cereal!!!!

Start it once a day, mixed with breast milk or formula, if it "clogs" him up add a little Pear juice. Before you know it he will be eating baby food too-but you want most of his nutrition right now to still come from formula or Breast milk.
-Just my humble opinion and experience

Ethan is now eating two or three times a day now. I give him rice, oatmeal and mixed grain cereals and we have Yo Baby! yogurts. It makes him sleep way better at night and FINALLY he is eating bottles less often. PHEW!

I mix it with formula, not water. I just really like to fatten my baby up as much as possible.
